Three-Port Network Switch Module with IEEE 1588 Time

The MNSW-503-1 is a three-port Ethernet switch module for use in the TTC MnDAU family of products. The single-height stackable module provides packet switching and IEEE 1588 time distribution to support networked data acquisition components and systems. Each port supports a 100BASE-T full-duplex Ethernet interface which implements a transparent switch process that is compatible with the IEEE 1588 V1 protocol. The module has a switching capacity of up to 1.07 million packets per second and supports an unlimited number of multicast addresses. The MNSW-503-1 provides a local port that connects to the host stack, an upstream port to connect to another MNSW-503-1 and a downstream port to connect to the host switch port or another MNSW-503-1. The module provides upstream and downstream Ethernet chaining to any MnDAU product to which it is added. The number of data acquisition units that can be daisy-chained together depends upon the total bandwidth produced by each MnDAU in the chain; each module adds a maximum of 40 nanoseconds uncertainty to the PTP time that passes through the switch. The MNSW-503-1 minimizes the use of expensive port switches by allowing more than one MnDAU to share one downstream port on a larger switch. The MNSW-503-1 functions as an unmanaged switch, is preconfigured with all necessary routing information and does not require a MAC or IP address. Symmetrical flow control is provided on all ports with the use of pause frames, which minimizes port contention and maximizes the use of bandwidth to and from the downstream host Ethernet port.
